Programme Overview

The Master of Science (MSc) in Islamic Finance and Data Analytics (MScIFDA) is a postgraduate programme offered by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE). This programme is coursework-based and is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge in Islamic finance, financial technology (FinTech), and data analytics. It integrates Islamic financial principles with contemporary data-driven financial analysis. The programme applies to all students registering from the August 2025 intake onwards.


Study Format and Credit Structure

The MScIFDA programme is designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time students, with the following duration options:

  • Full-time: 18 months (3 semesters)
  • Part-time: 30 months (5 semesters) (students may complete earlier with Programme Leader approval)

The total credit requirement for graduation is 60 modular credits, comprising:

  • 11 Core Modules (44 credits)
  • Optional Modules (16 credits)

Credit Load per Semester:

  • Full-time students: 16–20 modular credits per semester
  • Part-time students: 8–16 modular credits per semester


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • A Second Class Bachelor’s degree with Honours from UBD or a recognised university or institution; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree with Honours and at least three years of executive or management experience.

Applicants must also meet the English proficiency requirement through one of the following:

  • C6 in GCE β€˜O’ Level English
  • Grade β€˜B’ in IGCSE English (Second Language)
  • IELTS score of 6
  • TOEFL score of 550
  • Other recognised English proficiency tests as stipulated by UBD

Applicants may be required to undergo entrance tests or interviews to assess their suitability for the programme.
