UBDSBE Representatives Participate in Responsible Management Education Week 2026 in Cairo


Cairo, Egypt, 28–30 June 2026 – Representatives from the UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) participated in Responsible Management Education (RME) Week 2026, hosted by the Onsi Sawiris School of Business at The American University in Cairo. Organised by the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the event brought together more than 400 scholars, educators, practitioners, and changemakers from 58 countries, including 134 students, to advance responsible management education through global dialogue and knowledge exchange.

Held under the overarching theme "Counting on Collective Values", with the PRME Global Forum centred on "Global Unity, Local Impact", the 2026 edition marked the first time the PRME Global Forum and RME Week were hosted outside the United States. The event reflected PRME's commitment to broadening global participation and recognising the important contributions of Africa and the Global South in shaping the future of responsible management education.

Representing UBDSBE were Dr. Ahmad Lutfi bin Hj Abdul Razak, Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Affairs), and Pg Dr Hasnol Alwee bin Pg Hj Md Salleh, Head of the Faculty Sustainability Committee. They participated in the PRME Global Forum, AACSB Societal Impact Workshop, and EFMD Global Workshop, engaging with business school leaders, accreditation experts, policymakers, and academics from around the world on responsible management education, societal impact, and institutional transformation.

Throughout the programme, UBDSBE representatives gained practical insights into embedding sustainability, ethics, and responsible leadership across business school strategy, curriculum, research, and stakeholder engagement. Sessions such as "Educating for Impact: Bridging Business Education and the UN Global Compact Network" demonstrated how business schools can collaborate with industry and UN Global Compact Country Networks to address real-world challenges through education. Participants also attended the global launch of the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) 2026 for Business Schools, which highlighted how student feedback can complement institutional performance indicators in assessing and strengthening a business school's societal impact.

The AACSB Societal Impact Workshop provided practical frameworks for integrating societal impact into institutional strategy, accreditation, and stakeholder engagement, including approaches to identifying, measuring, evidencing, and communicating impact. Meanwhile, the EFMD Global Workshop demonstrated how accreditation can serve as a catalyst for institutional transformation by embedding ethics, responsibility, and sustainability into organisational culture and continuous quality enhancement. Discussions also explored emerging issues such as responsible leadership, climate action, artificial intelligence, future skills, and the need to align academic incentives with meaningful societal impact.

The event featured keynote addresses and workshops led by internationally recognised experts from the United Nations, PRME, AACSB International, and EFMD Global, including Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, United Nations Special Envoy on Financing Sustainable Development; Dr. David Steingard, Head of PRME; Professor Sherif Kamel, Dean of the Onsi Sawiris School of Business at The American University in Cairo and Chair of the AACSB International Board of Directors; Professor Eileen McAuliffe, Executive Vice President and Chief Thought Leadership Officer (EMEA), AACSB International; and Professor Piet Naudé, Director of EDAF and Associate Director for Programme Accreditation at EFMD Quality Services.

Participation in RME Week 2026 supports UBDSBE's ongoing efforts to strengthen AACSB accreditation, advance its commitment as a PRME Signatory, and further integrate sustainability, ethics, and societal impact across teaching, student learning, research, and community engagement. The knowledge gained and international networks established through the programme will inform ongoing curriculum enhancement, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement initiatives within the School, while contributing to UBD's strategic priorities in academic excellence, global engagement, and sustainable development.
