About UBDSBE

Initially established as the Faculty of Management and Administrative Studies (FMAS), the Faculty was renamed the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies in 2000 before becoming the UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) on 4 March 2014.

As one of the original faculties of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBDSBE is committed to excellence in business, economics, finance, entrepreneurship and related fields. Guided by its mission “to develop innovative and digitally competent leaders fostering positive and sustainable societal impact,” the School integrates education, research and engagement to address the evolving needs of business, the economy and society.

The School's research activities are organised around three core research clusters. The Strategic Dynamics and Innovation cluster advances research in areas such as organisational effectiveness, productivity, innovation and emerging technologies. The Islamic Finance and Halal Value Chain cluster explores ethical and sustainable financial and market systems grounded in Islamic principles. The Applied Economics and Policy cluster addresses economic and policy issues relevant to sustainable socioeconomic development, international trade and a changing global economy.

UBDSBE offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across its key disciplines, with curricula regularly reviewed and informed by engagement with industry and other stakeholders. The School seeks to provide high-quality education that prepares graduates to respond to a changing environment and contribute to a sustainable future.

Beyond the classroom, UBDSBE provides opportunities for students to develop leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities through industry engagement, competitions, workshops and other experiential learning activities. Through UBD's Discovery Year, students can further broaden their learning through internships, community outreach, incubation and entrepreneurship activities, and study abroad opportunities with partner universities.

UBDSBE is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), having achieved this distinction in 2023 as the first institution in Brunei Darussalam to receive AACSB accreditation. The School also maintains professional accreditations, affiliations and memberships with organisations and international networks including ACCA, the Babson Collaborative for Entrepreneurship Education, AICPA & CIMA, Beta Sigma Gamma, and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).

Through its education, research, consultancy and collaborative initiatives, UBDSBE seeks to develop graduates who can make meaningful contributions in the public and private sectors, entrepreneurship and the wider community, while advancing positive and sustainable societal impact.

UBDSBE Mission

To develop innovative and digitally competent leaders fostering positive and sustainable societal impact.

The mission reflects UBDSBE's commitment to developing future-ready leaders who are innovative, digitally competent and equipped to contribute positively and sustainably to society. The School pursues this mission through its education, research, consultancy, engagement and collaborative activities.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

To fulfil its mission, UBDSBE focuses on three Expected Outcomes (EOs):

EO1: To provide high-quality education that prepares graduates for the future.
EO2: To contribute to society through high-quality research and consultancy with industry.
EO3: To develop and broaden collaborative initiatives with reputable business schools and industry stakeholders.

Together, these Expected Outcomes translate UBDSBE's mission into its key areas of education, research and collaboration. EO1 focuses on maintaining a high-quality educational experience that prepares graduates to respond to changing economic, technological and societal needs. EO2 focuses on contributing to society through high-quality research and industry consultancy.
