SBESC Initiatives

Entrepreneurship Week

An annual event organized by the student council, presented in the form of a mini carnival with a different theme set by the members each year. Typically conducted over four days at the UBD campus, the event features business vendors, interactive booths, and games, creating an engaging platform that promotes entrepreneurial awareness, creativity, and collaboration among students.

Padian (SBE Official Cube Store)

Established in October 2024, a student-led initiative by the School of Business & Economics Student Council that provides a platform for students and local vendors to showcase their products while strengthening community within SBE. Padian offers cube spaces for vendors to sell goods alongside monthly café pop-ups that bring new flavours and experiences to campus. Aligned with Wawasan Brunei 2035 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Padian is more than just a cube store, it is a space that encourages partnerships and empowers entrepreneurial spirit.

Unparticular

An initiative by the 23/24 SBESC’s Entrepreneurship Department that serves as a platform for the members to showcase their entrepreneurial skills by selling their goods as vendors.

A monthly activity organized by each department of SBESC to foster stronger connections and teamwork among members.

SBESC Appreciation Night

A yearly event that is held to appreciate the members where it is also an event to strengthen the bonds within the SBESC members.

Academic Events

• International Conference on Business, Economics & Finance (ICBEF)
  This event began in 2017, organized twice a year with the faculty staff of UBDSBE serving as the main organizers. On each occasion, SBESC has played an important supporting role by assisting with ushering duties, coordinating logistics, and ensuring that the program runs smoothly.


• Summer Leadership Programme (SLP), UBD School of Business and Economics, UBD
  The Summer Leadership Programme (SLP) began in 2022 as an exclusive annual initiative for the UBDSBE Student Council, aimed at nurturing leadership skills and collaborative spirit among its members. In 2024, the programme expanded internationally, welcoming participants from various institutions to engage in a week of leadership development, cultural exchange, and experiential learning—continuing its mission to inspire globally minded and socially responsible leaders.


• International Conference on Islamic Finance and Sustainability
  In February 2025, UBDSBE held the first International Conference on Islamic Finance and Sustainability at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. SBESC has played an important supporting role by assisting with ushering duties, coordinating logistics, and ensuring that the program runs smoothly.


• “UBDSBE: Road to Accreditation” Roadshow
  The event aims to spread awareness among students regarding the AACSB accreditation and UBDSBE itself. The roadshow is organized by SBESC.

Community Services

• SBESC x SMARTER Brunei (2024)
  A creative project where SBESC students visited the school and worked together with the students to create unique designs that were later made into merchandise such as shirts, tote bags, and envelopes. SBESC then took charge of marketing and selling the products. The event aimed to raise awareness for autism through art while also strengthening community bonds and encouraging collaboration.


• Projekfeed x SBESC (2024)
  In February 2024, as part of Misi Khidmat Ramadhan, SBESC partnered with Projeckfeed Brunei to conduct a two-day Ramadhan donation drive aimed at supporting 150 families in need. During the event, the student council was able to collect donated items such as rice, canned foods, cooking oil, toiletries and other necessities. The event was successful and this initiative allowed SBESC members to engage in meaningful community service, promoting compassion, teamwork and the spirit of giving during Ramadhan.


• SBESC x Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) CSR Project on Financial Literacy (2024)
  On 8th November 2024, SBESC collaborated with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) for a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project at Kampung Bolkiah, focusing on promoting financial literacy among children aged 10–12. Through interactive activities, the students learned how to create their own tabung (savings jars) and identify their needs versus wants, fostering early money management skills. This meaningful exchange not only benefited the young participants but also strengthened the bond between SBESC and UTHM members, highlighting the importance of collaboration, community engagement, and lifelong learning


• Sumbangan Derma Ramadhan to Kg Bolkiah (2025)
  On the 27th of March, our members carried out the UBDSBE Sumbangan Ramadhan at Kampung Bolkiah A and B. Donations were opened to the public, and with the generous support received, we were able to extend a helping hand to families in need.

Collaborations

• Comparative study between SBESC x HIMABIS (2024)
  On 10th November 2024, the School of Business & Economics Student Council (SBESC) held an online comparative studies session with Himpunan Mahasiswa Administrasi Bisnis FISIP UNPAD from Indonesia. The Zoom meeting brought together all departments from both councils, creating a meaningful exchange of ideas and practices.

Involvements in UBD events

SBESC actively takes part in university-wide events, offering members the opportunity to contribute to UBD’s initiatives, support campus activities, and represent the student body in meaningful and impactful ways.

Volunteering

The student council actively takes part in volunteering projects, from community outreach to campus-based projects. These initiatives allow members to contribute to society while building empathy, teamwork, and leadership skills, fostering socially responsible graduates.
