Faculty Member Professor
Dr Ahmed Masood Khalid

Professor Ahmed Khalid earned his Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University, USA. He joined Universiti Brunei Darussalam in May 2015 as a Professor of Economics.  Previously, he worked at the Bond Business School as Professor of Economics and Finance since 2001.  He also worked at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 1992-2000.  Professor Khalid has also worked with the World Bank (visiting Consultant; the Planning Ministry of Pakistan (Advisor to the Minister) and Washington and Lee University (visiting Scholar).  His visiting academic appointments include Nanyang Technology University, Singapore; Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and Pakistan; and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE).  He has also worked as a consultant for leading institutions in finance and economics including the Economic Research Institute for East Asia and ASEAN (ERIA), Limberg Institute of Financial Economic (LIFE), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), CitiGroup, Haans Seidel Foundation and the UNDP. 

He is also Honorary Professor of Economics at Bond University, Australia and Founder and Covenor of Global Development Forum at the Bond University, Australia.  He is also a member of the U.K. based International Growth Centre (Macro Research Cluster – Pakistan Chapter) and Bond Representative for the Quality Assurance Program for Sur University College in Oman.   Professor Khalid’s research interests are in applied macroeconomics and monetary economics, applied econometrics, financial crisis and financial sector reforms with particular reference to emerging economies in East- and South-Asia and globalization and financial market integration.  He is Associate Editor of Singapore Economic Review; member, Advisory Board, Jurnal Ekonomi Malaysia (Malaysian Journal of Economics); member of the editorial board of South Asian Journal of Global Business Research and a number of other regional journals.  His published papers and books are widely cited in literature.    His publications include four books published by Edward Elgar Publishing Co. U.K., internationally refereed articles, chapters in books and numerous consultancy/project reports, technical reports, working papers and conference papers.

Dr Gamini Premaratne, Hetti Arachchige

Dr. Gamini joined the  UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) at University of Brunei in July 2009, where he enjoys teaching and researching in the areas of Economics, Econometrics and Finance. He is currently serving as  the Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and Research  of UBDSBE. Prior to moving to Brunei, he was holding an Assistant Professor position (2001-2009) at Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore. He has also served as a teaching and Research assistant at the University of Illinois (1994-2001) and Statistician at the Sample Survey Division of the Department of Census and Statistics (1986-1993), Sri Lanka and an Assistant Lecturer in mathematics at University of Ruhuna (1985), Sri Lanka.

He is a well-experienced researcher and his research interests include volatility models, hypothesis testing, behavioral finance, financial crisis and risk management. He has published in internationally refereed journals and book chapters including Journal of Financial Econometrics and Journal of statistical planning and inference. He has supervised, co-supervised, and served on the advisory and examination committees of a number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. His students have taken faculty positions at academic institutions and high-rank jobs at government and private sector. He is also an expert trainer on econometrics software such as Eviews, Gauss, RATS,  and R.

Dk. Dr. Hajah Norulazidah Binti Pg Haji Omarali
Dk Hjh Norulazidah obtained a first class Honours degree in B.A (major in Economics) from Universiti Brunei Darussalam in 1998. Later in 2000, she graduated with a masters degree in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester. In 2008 she was then awarded with a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Exeter. She is currently an Economics lecturer as well as the Programme Leader for Economics at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Her teaching areas are in macroeconomics, public sector economics, monetary economics and international economics. Her main research interests include issues relating to poverty, zakat and taxation.

Dr Mohammad Hadi Hazwan Bin Hj Haini
Hazwan Haini is a Lecturer in Universiti Brunei Darussalam and has completed his PhD at Loughborough University. His research interests include economic growth, applied economics and spatial econometrics, with focus on the ASEAN economies and China. He has published in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented in numerous international conferences. Hazwan has previous supported teaching at Loughborough University as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and has been awarded an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
