Overview

The Entrepreneurship Major at the UBD School of Business and Economics is designed to cultivate not only the capacity for initiating innovative ventures but also the competencies required for effective innovation management within both emerging and established organizations. This program targets individuals aspiring to roles as entrepreneurs or innovative managers, equipping them with the practical skills imperative in today's globally competitive landscape. The curriculum emphasizes the practical application of entrepreneurial and innovative theories, transitioning from traditional academic teachings to a hands-on approach that prepares students to transform theoretical concepts into tangible, real-world business solutions. By focusing on identifying opportunities, generating ideas, and creating viable products, the program aims to resolve societal problems by leveraging these into opportunities for novel business creation and strategic innovation within existing entities.


Program structure

The program structure for the Entrepreneurship program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation and specialized skills required for excelling in the complex fields of entrepreneurship. The curriculum is organized into several distinct components:

  • Degree Core Modules (12 MCs): Students initiate their academic journey in the Bachelor of Business in Entrepreneurship with core modules that include Accounting, Principles of Business, and Principles of Economics. These foundational courses are essential for building a comprehensive understanding of basic business principles, which are crucial for every budding entrepreneur.

  • Major Core Modules (40 MCs): As they progress, students engage with more specialized courses designed to mold them into innovative leaders. The curriculum includes Business Law, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation, Marketing Management, Entrepreneurial Finance, and Innovation Management. Further advanced studies like Theoretical Foundations of Entrepreneurship, Venture Growth Strategies, and the Startup, Growth, and Sustainability Project are also part of the core offerings, providing students with a thorough grounding in entrepreneurial processes and strategies.

  • Major Options (20 MCs): The program offers students flexibility to explore their interests through options such as Entrepreneurial Leadership, Entrepreneurship in Asia, Environmental and Sustainable Entrepreneurship, and Social Entrepreneurship by Design. These elective modules allow students to tailor their educational experience to suit their career goals and personal interests.

  • Compulsory Breadth (20 MCs) and Breadth (16 Mcs): To broaden their horizons further, students will take compulsory breadth courses offered by other faculties, as well as additional modules that expand their knowledge outside the core business discipline. This interdisciplinary approach is designed to enhance students' adaptability and broaden their understanding of various fields.

  • Discovery Year (32 MCs): A defining feature of the program, the Discovery Year provides two semesters of experiential learning opportunities. Students may choose to engage in internships, community outreach projects, study abroad, or business incubation programs, all designed to apply classroom knowledge in real-world business settings. This year is crucial for practical learning and helps students solidify their entrepreneurial ventures or projects.
