UBDSBE Student Council

School of Business and Economics Student Council (SBESC) is a student representative of Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE), and it has been established since 2014 under the Persatuan Mahasiswa/i Universiti Brunei Darussalam (PMUBD)’s Executive of Leadership and Innovation (ELI). It is an organization dedicated to serving our school in making a positive impact within the community and developing leaders within the council. Our student council also aimed at assisting new students to ease their transition from their college experience to life in the campus. This council also liaises with lecturers in UBDSBE, provides assistance when necessary and also focuses on organizing and managing events in accordance to UBDSBE’s mission.

  • To improve leadership and organizational skills among all members.
  • To give varieties of great exposure to all members in a business-related field.
  • To enhance the members social and interpersonal skills.
What do we do?
  • To assist the organisation of events for UBDSBE.
  • To assist new UBDSBE students to familiarise themselves with the environment.
  • To plan and execute activities towards nurturing the business ideas of UBDSBE students.
  • Represents the voice of the UBDSBE student community.
Benefits of becoming SBESC member

Members would be exposed to activities, which require them to make quick and thoughtful decisions; a skill critical towards becoming the leaders of tomorrow. Their involvement will also enhance their interpersonal communication skills, as well as negotiation and leadership skills as there will be constant interactions with their peers, faculty members and/or members of the community. Students will also learn how to effectively manage their time, as they are required to balance studies and the various activities held within the student body. Students involvement in this student-based council should therefore be viewed as a platform, and as a starting point to enhance various skills, which are essential in the real world, after graduating from the university.   • UBDSBE Faculty Orientation
    Conducted every semester, during Freshers Week, where the student council is responsible in ensuring that the new UBDSBE students feel welcome, by holding ice breaking games and welcoming speech.

  • General Meeting & Ice-breaking Session
    Held every semester, this program helps members become familiar with SBESC’s key information and connect with new members. It includes a comprehensive briefing by the top committee members, along with interactive games designed to foster connections and teamwork among participants.

  • Entrepreneurship Week
    To be held every year where the student council will have a β€œcarnival” as accordance to theme set by the members. The carnival is usually held for 3 days in UBD campus, where business vendors will be invited. There are also games to make the event more exciting.

    βž” (2024) Inspiring Greatness - To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of SBESC, the 2024 Entrepreneurship Week featured a special event called the β€œInspiring Run.

  • Dean’s Cup Tournament
    It’s been held for two times since SBESC established in 2014. Dean’s Cup is a futsal tournament where it is usually organized by our Sports Department.

  • Dodgeball Tournament
    It is a dodgeball tournament where it is organized by our Sports Department in 2017.

  • International Conference of Business, Economics and Finance (ICBEF)
    It’s been held two times, in 2017 and 2019, where the main organizer is the faculty staff of UBDSBE. The student council is responsible in ushering the event and helping out in ensuring the event runs successfully.

  • Spotacular Race
    An amazing race game event that was held at Jerudong Park and Playground, in 2019. This event was the first time that SBESC held an event outside of UBD campus.

  • SBESC Appreciation Night
    A yearly event that is held to appreciate the members where it is also an event to strengthen the bonds within the SBESC members.

  • Student Mobility Programme
    A five to one week programme where students get to experience going outside of Brunei to visit abroad universities and organization. The event is proposed by UBDSBE and organized by SBESC. The first Student Mobility Programme was held in 2019 where the students went to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to visit Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and other organizations such as Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT), Aquarium and Marine Museum and others.

  • Silpakorn University Management Science (SUMS) Camp for International Students
    In February 2024, three SBESC members participated in the 10-day event held at Silpakorn University in Thailand, alongside students from National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT), Taiwan. The program included a variety of enriching activities, such as learning basic Thai language, making traditional Thai food, visiting the local attractions and many more. This immersive experience not only provided educational value but also fostered cross-cultural understanding, networking opportunities and personal growth for all participants.

  • β€œUBDSBE: Road to Accreditation” Roadshow
    The event aims to spread awareness among students regarding the AACSB accreditation and UBDSBE itself. The roadshow is organized by SBESC.

  • UBD Wellness Wednesday
    The SBESC members assisted the School of Business and Economics to organize the UBD Wellness Wednesday. The flow of the event and activities held during the event was planned and run by SBESC members, the activity chosen for the semester was Zumba. (October 2024)

  • Summer Leadership Programme
    Formerly known as the β€˜Student Leadership Workshop’, this programme allows the SBESC members to discover more about what it truly is to become a leader through the games and advice throughout the workshop. In 2024, the program adopted a new name to reflect its expanded scope, as international students were invited to participate for the first time. Alongside the leadership workshops, SBESC members also guided participants on tours of Brunei’s key attractions, enriching their cultural experience.

  • Volunteering

  • Corporate Social Responsibility

    βž” Projekfeed X SBESC
    In February 2024, as part of Misi Khidmat Ramadhan, SBESC partnered with Projeckfeed Brunei to conduct a two-day Ramadhan donation drive aimed at supporting 150 families in need. During the event, the student council was able to collect donated items such as rice, canned foods, cooking oil, toiletries and other necessities. The event was successful and this initiative allowed SBESC members to engage in meaningful community service, promoting compassion, teamwork and the spirit of giving during Ramadhan.

    A monthly activity organized by each department to foster stronger connections and teamwork among members.

    An initiative by the Entrepreneurship Department that serves as a platform for council members to showcase their entrepreneurial skills by selling their goods as vendors.

  • Visits from Overseas University
    The Student Council serves as hosts for visitors, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported during their time at UBD. They assist with navigation around the campus, providing guidance and logistical support to enhance the visitors’ experience. This initiative also extends to offering assistance to UBDSBE, reinforcing collaboration and showcasing the institution’s hospitality.
