Master of Applied Economics
Programme Overview
he Master of Applied Economics is designed to provide students a strong foundation in economics and enable them to upgrade their skills in quantitative methods and economic analysis. In addition to the coursework, students are expected to undertake independent research as a core module (Research Project) to showcase their ability to integrate theoretical
and practical knowledge in economics for real world problems. This program equips students with the skills needed to practice as a professional economist or relevant positions in the business world in banking, insurance and investment to those in academic settings, government agencies and consulting organizations. It also provides a foundation to undertake further study at the PhD level.
Study Format and Credit structure
The duration of the programme is normally 12 months (2 semesters) for a full-time student and 24 months (4 semesters) for a part-time student.
A student must accumulate a minimum of 48 modular credits to qualify for the award of the degree, made up of 28 modular credits of core modules and 20 modular credits of option modules.
What will you Learn?
The programme covers core training in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Applied Econometrics, and Research Methodology, and Graduate Research Paper. Students can personalise their learning through optional modules such as Financial Economics, International Trade & Finance, Islamic Economics and Finance, Development, Labour, Environmental and Energy Economics, Money and Banking, Time Series Forecasting, and Game Theory.
