About

PhD programmes at UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) aim to produce competitive PhD scholars commendable in quality of scholarly publications and their communication skills.

These attributes are expected of researchers by higher education institutions, industries, and accreditation bodies such as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

To achieve these aims, doctoral students are invited to participate in the PhD Colloquium in the areas of business, management, economics, accounting, and finance.




Objectives

The UBDSBE PhD Colloquium aims to provide a platform for research students to present their doctoral research work-in-progress and to develop much-needed skills in research presentation and engagement in a supportive environment to academics and peers in the field.



The objectives are:

  • to provide PhD students with a platform to present their research ideas.
  • to offer an avenue for exchanges of ideas amongst PhD students and researchers.
  • to allow PhD students to receive feedback from scholars and experts in areas specific to their research.

Registration Deadline:
4th April 2023

Acceptance Notification:
10th April 2023

Colloquium Day:
1st May 2023




Colloquium Requirements

Timing
Participants have 10 minutes to present their research.

Concise
Present concisely using 5 - 7 power point slides.

Audience
Present their research in front of senior academics and peers.

Discuss
Engage in constructive discussions and Q&A.




Guidelines

  • All submission and presentations must be in English
  • All submissions will undergo a selection process and authors will be notified for acceptance
  • Presenters must be physically present in UBDSBE during the colloquium. Online presentations are not permitted.
  • Presentations are limited to 10 minutes maximum



Participant

Who should participate?

  • Compulsory for Jan 2021, Aug 2021, Jan 2022 and Aug 2022 intake UBDSBE PhD students
  • Optional for UBDSBE PhD students in their final stage of thesis submission
  • PhD students from other institutions in Brunei and partner universities in Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan, in relevant fields, are encouraged to participate



Award and Prizes

Bring your 'A' game and stand a chance to win:
First Prize
$ 1000 and a certificate for the “Best Paper of the Day”.

Second Prize
B$ 500 and a certificate for the second-best paper.

Third Prize
B$ 250 and a certificate for the third-best paper.




Registration

Reminder

Free registration. You are required to sign-in into Google to access the Google Form. When registering, participants are required to submit a 1500 word (max) research summary and a 500 words (max) brief author biography.

The research summary must include the following (if applicable*):
  • Issue(s) under study
  • Underlying concepts, theory, frameworks
  • Methodology
  • Contribution to knowledge
  • Progress to date
  • Future research process/undertaking

The author biography may include the following points:
    - Begin with a brief introduction.
    - Describe your professional experience.
    - Highlight your accomplishments.
    - Share your education and credentials.
    - Describe your research background.
    - Close with a call to action to encourage readers to check out your work or connect with you.
