Research Clusters

Our school is active in planning and acting more strategically in the development of our current and future research programmes. We continuously reassess our current position, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to add value to our research activities and enhance the School’s research profile to a higher level of international excellence.

We encourage our academic staff and research students to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects and working with leading universities around the world in order to develop ambitious and dynamic research culture among individuals in the School. The school provides physical and support infrastructure to encourage research and teaching activities, and recruit, nurture and reward high potential or calibre academic, research and support staff. Our research activities are mainly driven by the School’s core disciplines and research clusters. We aspire to achieve high citation index in research and become a leading research school in the Asia region.


Strategic Issues in Business

Head of cluster: Assoc Professor Dr Nazlida Muhamad
Niche: Transforming Business for Sustainability

This research niche offers concepts and frameworks to guide businesses to think about how to fit well into the grand scheme of things and embrace the potential of digital economy for a sustainable competitive advantage. It also seeks to provide insights into the management of key business functional areas (such as management information system, operations, human resources, marketing) that are well-positioned in enabling the transition towards a more innovative, inclusive, sustainable firm in the digital economy.



Theoretical and Applied Economics

Head of cluster: Asst Professor Dr Siti Fatimahwati Binti Pehin Dato Haji Musa
Niche: Sustainable and Inclusive Development (SID)

This niche area covers a broad spectrum of research on sustainable development and how benefits of development and growth can impact the nationals and society. It seeks to provide suggestions on specific issues and challenges Brunei Darussalam (and the region) are facing to maintain a sustainable growth. This sustainable growth is needed to enhance social welfare and living standards of its population.



Islamic Economics and Finance

Head of cluster: Senior Asst Professor Dr. Muhamad Abduh
Niche: Inclusive and Sustainable Finance

Researchers of this niche area investigate behavioural and perceptual dimensions to Islamic Finance research that helps develop the scope of individuals' financial literacy, their degree of (gradual) engagement (inclusion) and impact on their sustainable livelihood using existing and potential Islamic Finance tools. These activities carry significant policy implications, as many of these activities are directly connected to concurrent socio-economic development policies of the Government of Brunei Darussalam.
